Learning Ecosystem (EA)
Institute of Education, Quality and Assessment Ministry of Education
The Learning Ecosystem is a digital platform for schools that supports teaching and learning. It brings together courses, educational resources, activities, communication tools, and progress tracking features in a single secure environment, available to students, teachers, and, where applicable, parents or guardians.
The Learning Ecosystem is intended for students, teachers, and, where applicable, parents or guardians, as well as administration/management profiles defined by schools. Each profile has different access levels, according to the permissions assigned.
The Learning Ecosystem platform can be accessed on a computer (desktop or laptop), tablet, and mobile phone, using an up-to-date web browser and an internet connection.
To access learning content, go to the main menu and select the subjects or courses area. This area contains lists of the user's learning activities (courses, activities, and content) available in the Learning Ecosystem.
To find additional materials, open the main menu and access the Digital Library, where books and other resources are available. To explore additional courses, use the search function or the Recommended for Me section (if available), accessible via the menu or on the home page.
Refresh the page, check your internet connection, or try using a different browser.
Core resources are mandatory content related specifically to your class, while optional resources are broader and may apply to other classes or school years.
Depending on defined permissions, parents or guardians may view reading history and reading plans of the associated student. Available features depend on privacy rules and consent.
Yes, you can change your personal details accessing the Account Settings. However some personal details can only be changed by the school.
On the login page, click “Forgot password” and follow the instructions to reset/set a new password and regain access to your account. (If you just want to change your password, you can do so in Account Settings.)
Learning Ecosystem integrates features supported by Artificial Intelligence to assist teachers in tasks such as analyzing information on learning progress and preparing feedback proposals. Artificial Intelligence is a support tool: the content generated must always be reviewed and validated by the teacher/school before being used.
Artificial Intelligence-assisted tools can help teachers draft feedback proposals based on learning activity and student progress data. Teachers can review, edit, customize, or reject these suggestions before sharing them with students.
Artificial Intelligence-supported analysis may review indicators such as participation, progress, and completion patterns to highlight students who may benefit from additional attention. These insights help teachers identify trends but do not define student's ability or potential.
Learning Ecosystem can provide Artificial Intelligence-generated support recommendations based on indicators such as course progress, assessment results, participation, and recent activity. These recommendations are intended to support pedagogical monitoring and may be updated periodically. They do not constitute an official diagnosis or assessment and should always be interpreted by the teacher in the context of the available pedagogical information.
No. Artificial Intelligence does not make final or automated decisions about students. Any insights or suggestions provided by Artificial Intelligence are supportive and are always reviewed by teachers or school staff.
Yes. Artificial Intelligence-supported features are optional, and their use depends on the teacher's decision and the guidelines and policies applicable at the school. They may also be subject to configuration and permissions.
No. The teacher retains full responsibility for teaching, assessment, and feedback. Artificial Intelligence is only a support tool, designed to help make processes more efficient, consistent, and clear.
Yes. Artificial Intelligence-powered features comply with the same data protection, privacy, and security requirements applicable to the Learning Ecosystem, in accordance with the GDPR and current policies. For more details, please refer to Learning Ecosystem's Privacy Policy.
For students, Artificial Intelligence-powered features can suggest resources and activities based on indicators such as participation and progress on the platform, helping to consolidate learning and continue progress. These recommendations are only suggestions for support and do not replace teacher guidance or constitute an assessment of student ability or performance.
The “Attention” indicator is a support signal that may suggest the need for additional monitoring, based on indicators such as participation, completion of activities, and progress on the platform. It does not constitute a diagnosis or assessment of the student and should always be interpreted by the teacher in the pedagogical context.
To check progress, open the course you wish to view and go to the Progress section. There you will find information about the students' progress in the activities for that course.
To complete a quiz or lesson, open the resource and enter the corresponding module. Then follow the instructions provided and, in the case of quizzes, answer the questions and submit them at the end; the activity will be marked as complete (where applicable).
If the minimum score is not achieved, the questionnaire can be retaken, if this option is available. The rules (number of attempts and criteria) are presented in the questionnaire itself and may vary depending on the content.
Some modules are only available after you have completed the previous steps. Therefore, if you are unable to access the next module, you must complete the necessary activities and try again. The unlocking rules may vary depending on the course or type of content.
Yes. As a rule, progress is saved automatically as you interact with the content. If you notice any discrepancies, check your internet connection and refresh the page.
Simply access the Reports tab available under the Instructor option for each resource.
After completing all required modules and assessments, the certificate will be available for download in the course area and also in the Class area. Note: Certificate issuance may depend on the course and the rules defined.
The Recommended for you section provides suggestions for courses and resources that may be useful, based on students' progress and the content they have explored on the platform.
To contact teachers, you must access the private messages in the Communication area. In some courses, it is also possible to post questions in the forums in the course area, if available.
To contact students, teachers can send a direct message through the Communication area. To communicate with the entire class, the teacher can use group chats (when available).
To view events and deadlines, open the Calendar in the main menu. You can also access the Calendar within the Class area.
A gamified space where you can earn points, badges, and rewards based on your interaction with platform content.
The Digital Library is the central repository of books and other resources within the Learning Ecosystem, brought together in a catalogue available in different formats. It allows users to search for and consult synopses, read excerpts (when available), and access titles for online reading and, where applicable, offline reading, as well as manage favourites and waiting lists.
The Digital Library can be accessed by authenticated users within the Learning Ecosystem (for example, students, teachers, and parents/guardians), in accordance with the permissions assigned.
Each content/book may contain information such as title, author(s), publisher, publication date, synopsis, language, subject/category, ISBN, format, cover image, and loan period, when this information is available for the respective title.
To request a content/book from the digital library, click on the cover of that content/book, and then on the details page, click on “Request.” If a license is available, the loan is confirmed and the title becomes accessible in the “Continue Reading” section of the digital library homepage or in the same section of the “My Library” page. If there are no licenses available, you can join the waiting list by clicking on the “Waiting List” option on the content/book detail page. When the content/book becomes available, the user is notified via Learning Ecosystem and can request the content/book (when applicable).
The duration of the loan may vary depending on the rules defined for that content/book. In cases where a time limit applies to the loan, this is indicated on the platform (in the title file and/or on the detail page for that content). In some cases, the content may be available without a defined duration limit.
The waiting list is a notification request associated with a Digital Library title when it has no available licenses. When content is unavailable, you can join the waiting list. As soon as that content becomes available again, you will receive a notification on the platform and can then request the content. You can cancel your place on the waiting list at any time by clicking the “Remove from List” button on the details page for that content on the waiting list.
Favorite contents correspond to a personal list of Digital Library resources that the user marks for quick access. From this list, it is possible to request contents and manage their presence on the waiting list, adding or removing them as necessary. Through this option, it is also possible to start or continue reading the content and/or perform other actions available according to the status of the content.
Yes, when available. Some content/books can be downloaded for offline reading. For protected/licensed content, an Internet connection may be required when opening the file for the first time (for authentication); after that, offline reading remains available until the end of the loan period.
The digital content reader includes navigation between the pages of the selected content, as well as the possibility of creating bookmarks, underlining and annotations, adjusting text size and colors, using read-aloud (when available), and automatically returning to the last page read.
When the loan period for content/books from the digital library ends, access to the content (online and offline) automatically ends and the title becomes available again to other users. The history of requests for this content (loan date and return date) is available in the history section of the “My Library” page of the user who made the loan.
The catalog and information associated with each title are managed by the entity responsible for the Learning Ecosystem Digital Library, which ensures that content is updated and, when necessary, that the data presented in the resource file is supplemented.
The Digital Library may offer content in formats such as ePub/ePub2/ePub3, PDF, audiobooks, and video, depending on the title.
The Digital Library can provide features such as OpenDyslexic font, read-aloud (text-to-speech), captions, and content in Portuguese Sign Language (LGP). The availability of these options may vary depending on the format and title.
You can request books and other content available in the Digital Library catalog, subject to availability.
Each user can view their requests in My Library > Continue reading, or on the Digital Library home page, in the Continue reading section. There you will find a list of requested books, with your reading progress, the loan end date (where applicable), and the title/author. From each book, you can also access options such as Read, Download/Transfer, Rate, and Return.
If a book is unavailable, the user can join the waiting list. When a copy becomes available, they will receive a notification and can request the book.
The information available to Guardians depends on the permissions set for the profile and the applicable privacy and data protection rules. For more details, see the Learning Ecosystem Privacy/Personal Data section.
In the Digital Library back office area, you can create/edit/activate/deactivate content; add metadata (title, author, category, ISBN, synopsis, cover, request period). You can also create/edit reading clubs and configure promotional banners that are displayed on the digital library homepage. To access this back office area, users must have an administrator profile.
If missing metadata is detected in a piece of content, users with back office permissions must complete this information in the Digital Library back office (e.g., title, author, publisher, synopsis, category, cover, ISBN, and loan term/period). When information is not provided automatically, this update ensures the quality of searches and recommendations on the platform.
No. The Loan Period field is configurable per content item by Administrator or Teacher. If not defined, the content is considered open access with no time limit.
Reading Clubs are spaces on the platform where participants can get together to read and discuss books, share ideas, and promote a love of reading. On Learning Ecosystem, a reading club can include organizing reading and discussion sessions and exchanging comments between members, according to the permissions set by the school/teacher.
Reading clubs have three types of profiles: moderator, contributors (optional), and members. Each profile has specific functions. The moderator is responsible for creating, managing, and facilitating the club, for example, by setting readings and guiding participation. Contributors support the moderator, but with more limited permissions; for example, they cannot create clubs or manage members. Finally, members participate in the group's readings and interactions.
In reading clubs, participants can access a space for sharing and discussion reserved for the club, where they can comment on readings and exchange reflections. Reading activities and discussion sessions can also be promoted, in accordance with the permissions defined.
There are private and public reading clubs. Private clubs are accessible by invitation only. Public clubs may allow users from the same school/group/class to register when there are vacancies and in accordance with the permissions defined.
Registration for reading clubs is possible whenever the clubs are public, and the club is intended for the group/school/class of the authenticated user and there are places available.
The user may cancel their club membership at any time.
Only users with administrative or backoffice permissions can create reading clubs.
Generally, no. Registrations are associated with the authenticated user. Parents/guardians and/or teachers may support and guide students, but formal enrollment must be completed by the students themselves (or by a school profile with specific permissions, when applicable).
Reading plans help organize and structure reading through a schedule. They can be created by students themselves or by teachers for a student or group. Each student can have one or more active plans, and where applicable, plans can be shared with classmates.
Yes, it depends on who shared the reading plan. If the plan is shared by classmates, students can decline it. In this case, the plan will no longer be available in their list. If they accept it, the plan will be added to the list and can be edited according to their preferences. When the reading plan is shared by teachers, it cannot be declined or edited.
Yes. Any student can create their own reading plans via Reading Plans → Create New Reading Plan.
Yes, as long as the colleagues with whom you wish to share the plan belong to the same class.
Yes. To do this, they must access the reading plans area and share a plan that has already been created with a student or group of students. Teachers can also create a new reading plan and share it.
Teachers can recommend content to their students by creating Reading Plans for an individual student or for the class and/or promoting participation in Reading Clubs.
Students can recommend content to their colleagues by sharing a Reading Plan with colleagues in the same class and/or inviting them to join a Reading Club (when available).
